NESEA Conference

Today I had the opportunity to walk the exhibit hall at the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association's Building Energy Conference!

There were dozens of important and interesting exhibitors.

I particularly enjoyed learning more about Alteris and their success and growth. I was able to meet Hannah who works for Alteris' wind division. She showed me a new solar technology which is thin-film solar in a tubular form. This type of solar is placed on a WHITE roof.

When the sun hits the white roof it REFLECTS back towards the solar P.V. The tubular shape is key here- because the solar P.V. is wrapped in a tube form the sun can hit the solar twice. Once when it radiates down from the sun and again when it is reflected back off the white roof. This tubing, unlike panels, does not need to be bolted down to the roof because it doesn't take on that unfortunate kite-like quality that a flat panel does. It was really cool to see this new technology in person! Pictured (left) is the set of tubing on a bright white roof (CLICK TO ENLARGE)
