Currently 29 states mandate utilities to purchase some percentage of renewable energy.
Hawaii has the strongest mandate requiring 40% of electricity to be sourced from renewable energy by 2030.
Hundreds of thousands of citizens have taken the power into their own hands to go above and beyond these mandates by choosing to voluntarily support the development of wind, solar and hydro power. Businesses such as Intel, Pepsi, Kohls, Whole Foods Market, Dell and Nike purchase large amounts of renewable energy. An article from Business Week listing the top 50 purchasers of renewable energy noted Sterling Planet as a “standout” partner that sells to 6 of the top 10 purchasers.
